Eugene Cunningham (1896-1957) said he was born in Arkansas, raised in Texas, joined the U.S. Navy in 1914, served in the Asiatic and Atlantic Fleets and along the Mexican coast, moved to the U.S. Naval Reserve until 1923, may have been a mercenary in Central America, wrote fiction prolifically, rejoined the U. S. Navy and served in Intelligence during World War II. His writings were quite violent. In this novel a Texan drifts west into New Mexico Territory, becomes a Sheriff, deals with "The Trackless Bunch". A stunning western tale from the 1930s, reprinted by Triangle in 1944.
